North Korea is notorious all over the world for testing its missiles. Meanwhile, there is news that Kim Jong Un has suffered a major setback. The South Korean military has said that North Korea probably launched a hypersonic missile on Wednesday but this missile was destroyed in the air. It is worth noting that North Korea conducted this test at a time when a few days ago the US has deployed an aircraft carrier for new trilateral military exercises with South Korea and Japan. North Korea has opposed the deployment of the aircraft carrier in this region.
No news of loss
South Korea on Wednesday conducted military exercises on the disputed western sea border with North Korea. It was the first military exercise conducted after the 2018 agreement with the aim of reducing military tensions on the front line with North Korea was suspended in early June. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that North Korea launched a missile at around 5:30 am on Wednesday. The missile was launched towards the eastern waters of North Korea, but the launch was not successful. The statement said that pieces of the missile were scattered in the water up to 250 kilometers from the launch site near the North Korean capital. There is no immediate report of any damage.
Solid-fueled hypersonic missile
The Joint Chief of Staff told South Korean journalists that the weapon was a solid-fueled hypersonic missile. The launch produced more smoke than a normal launch, which was probably due to a malfunction in the engine. According to the South Korean Foreign Ministry, senior diplomats from South Korea, the US and Japan condemned the missile launch and called it a violation of UN resolutions. All these countries also agreed to maintain close coordination to deal with the threat from North Korea.
