According to the news of the government news agency ‘Xinhua’, the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday decided to expel 66-year-old Li for gross violation of party discipline and law. Li, who was the head of the very important rocket (missile) force of the People’s Liberation Army, went missing last year, after which speculations were being made that an investigation of corruption and indiscipline is being conducted against him. Xi himself appointed Li as the Defense Minister.

Shangfu has been a state councillor
Li Shangfu has previously served as a state councillor (the top post in the party) and a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC). The CMC is a high command of the PLA headed by Xi. Dozens of PLA generals, including Li, have been either dismissed or punished for corruption since Xi (71) came to power in 2012. The CMC’s disciplinary and supervisory agency launched an investigation against Li on August 31, 2023. According to the investigation results, Li grossly violated political and organizational discipline.
