₹90000000000 for LPG subsidy, what big announcement is going to be made in Budget 2024?

New Delhi: The government is going to present the general budget soon. In this, it can make a big announcement on LPG subsidy. According to sources, the government can give LPG subsidy of about Rs 9,000 crore to oil companies (OMCs). This financial help will be given under the Ujjwala scheme. This will benefit more than 10 crore Ujjwala customers. Actually, the government gives LPG subsidy to oil companies every year in the budget so that the common people can get cheap LPG gas. In this year’s interim budget also, the government had announced to give financial help to OMCs. Now ET Now has quoted sources as saying that the government will continue this financial help in the upcoming budget as well.

The government gives a subsidy of Rs 300

Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the government gives a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder to the beneficiaries. The government has already extended this scheme till March 2025. There are more than 10.27 crore PMUY beneficiaries as on March 1, 2024. The government has already transferred Rs 2,000 crore to OMCs in the current financial year (2024-25).

Likely to continue till FY 2025-26
Sources say that financial assistance for free LPG connections is likely to continue till FY 2025-26. The government has already announced to give more than 70,000 new connections under the scheme. So, overall LPG subsidy will have two important aspects. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget for the remainder of the financial year 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha this month.

In addition, the Modi government may announce the expansion of production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes to include more and more sectors that create significant employment opportunities. It remains to be seen what steps the government takes in this budget to strengthen the common man and the economy.
