The rise of a sixteen-year-old ‘superstar’ in Euro 2024, the goal that created history and people praising him

Marco van Basten’s angled volley in Euro 1988 was one such unforgettable goal. After this, Paul Gascoigne’s successful run towards the goalpost in Euro 1996 and Karel Poborsky’s goal with a slight chip in the same tournament are also among the never-to-be-forgotten goals.

Lamin Yamal’s history-making goal for Spain against France in the Euro 2024 semi-finals can also be added to this list.

When Spain was trailing 1-0 to France in the first semi-final of Euro 2024 in Munich early Wednesday morning as per Indian time, Yamal scored a brilliant goal from outside the box into the top corner of the goalpost. This goal has put Yamal’s name in the history books.

At the age of 16 years and 362 days, he has become the youngest person to score in the history of the tournament.

But perhaps an even bigger achievement was that anyone who saw this goal was surprised.

Former England striker Gary Lineker told , “A superstar has been born. This is the most memorable moment not only of this match but of the entire tournament.”

Another former England star Alan Shearer said: “An amazing goal. We were talking all through the tournament about how young Yamal was. And to score a goal like that – it’s unbelievable.”
