Flood wreaks havoc in Bangladesh, 20 dead; more than 50 lakh people in trouble

Flood In Bangladesh: While Bangladesh is trying to recover from the political crisis on one hand, floods have wreaked havoc here. Due to continuous rains and rising rivers, many areas of Bangladesh are in the grip of floods. 20 people have died due to the floods while more than 50 lakh people are affected. Life has been disrupted due to the floods, people are not even able to get food and clean water. Highways and rail lines between the capital Dhaka and the main port city of Chittagong have been damaged, making it difficult to reach the badly flood-affected areas.

What did Mohammad Yunus say?

The worst affected areas due to the floods include Cox’s Bazar, where about 10 lakh Rohingya refugees from neighboring Myanmar have made their home. Meanwhile, Bangladesh government head Mohammad Yunus said in a television address that the administration has taken all necessary measures to ensure a return to normalcy for the flood victims. The situation can become dire
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned that if the monsoon rains continue, the flood situation can remain more dire. Officials say that more than four lakh people have taken shelter in about 3,500 relief camps in 11 flood-affected districts. About 750 medical teams are present for treatment in the relief camps. The Army, Air Force, Navy and Border Guard Bangladesh are assisting in rescue operations.

Rain causes destruction every year

Abdul Halim (65), a farmer in a village in Comilla district, said that his hut was washed away by flood waters at midnight. He said that no belongings were left and there is no drinking water either. Hardly anyone has brought relief aid inside the villages. It is also worth noting that Bangladesh is surrounded by hundreds of rivers and in recent decades, tragedies like floods have been witnessed here many times. Monsoon rains cause large-scale destruction every year.
