But, now Maldives has said that about 68 percent of the work of Hanimadhoo International Airport being built with Indian assistance has been completed. India has said that this project will have a transformative effect on the entire northern region of the island country. The Ministry of Infrastructure has announced that the construction work of Hanimadhoo International Airport is 67.5 percent complete, which is being funded by the Government of India with a loan assistance of 80 crore MVR (Maldives currency). The work of the project is progressing rapidly.

When will the project be completed

News portal TruthMV.com said on Thursday, “The expansion of the airport handed over to India’s GMC in September includes a 2.7 km runway, a terminal with a capacity of 13 lakh passengers and a jet fuel storage facility. According to the Infrastructure Ministry, 97 percent of the 2,400-meter-long runway and apron has been completed, and the completed portion is already in use.
