India’s SCBA asked Bangladesh a tough question, “Did Sheikh Hasina commit any extraditable crime? … also advised not to target Hindus

New Delhi: Amid the coup in Bangladesh after heavy violence, now India’s Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has asked a tough question from Dhaka. Outgoing SCBA President and Senior Advocate Adish C. Agarwal has written a letter to the President of the Bar Association of the top court of Bangladesh seeking information whether the country’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had committed any “extradable crime”. Agarwal has also requested the President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association to ensure that Hindus are not deliberately targeted during the unrest in the neighboring country.

The letter addressed to A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon said that the legal community of both the countries works together. The letter said, “I read in the news that in your capacity as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Bangladesh, you have urged that India should be asked to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana should be arrested and sent back to Bangladesh. It said that according to the 2013 extradition treaty between the two countries, it is mandatory that there is an “extradable offense”. The letter said, “There is no news that Sheikh Hasina and her sister have been charged in any criminal case.

Do not deliberately target Hindus

He said that if you claim that Sheikh Hasina and her sister have been charged with any crime and if the Bangladesh government has requested extradition from the Indian government, please provide me the said information immediately, so that we can put pressure on the Indian government to extradite them to Bangladesh. “It said, “The Bar is an advocate of human rights. Reports say that Hindu homes and businesses as well as temples have been targeted, looted and damaged during the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. I would also like to request you on this occasion to ensure that Hindus are not deliberately targeted in Bangladesh.
