Western countries fear that this may help Iran move forward on its ballistic missile program. Iran has made this launch amid rising tensions in West Asia over the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. During the war, Iran carried out unprecedented direct missile and drone attacks on Israel. Meanwhile, Iran’s uranium enrichment is about to reach close to the enrichment level required to make weapons. Disarmament experts have expressed concern over Tehran’s program.

Iran has said that ‘Qaim-100’ rockets were used to launch the satellite and the Revolutionary Guard had used it during another successful launch in January. State media reported that the satellite named Chamran-1 weighs 60 kg. The US State Department and the US military were asked for a response about Iran’s launch, but no response was received. Earlier, the US had said that Iran’s satellite launch was a violation of the United Nations Security Council resolution.
