The pace of registration in e-Shram, the national database portal of workers in the unorganized sector, remains fast. The latest figures are saying this. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Labor, registration in e-Shram has crossed the milestone of 30 crore registrations in a period of three years. According to the news of Bhasha, the Ministry of Labor said in a statement last Monday that this achievement highlights the social impact and the government’s commitment to support unorganized workers across the country.
Established as a one-stop solution platform
According to the news, the Ministry of Labor and Employment launched the e-Shram portal on August 26, 2021. According to the statement, within three years of its launch, more than 30 crore unorganized workers have been registered on this portal. This shows that unorganized workers are adopting it rapidly and widely. The government wants to establish the e-shram portal as a one-time solution platform for the unorganized workers of the country. In the budget speech for the financial year 2024-25, it was said to establish the e-shram portal as a one-time solution facility by comprehensively integrating it with other portals.
What is e-shram portal
The Ministry of Labor and Employment has developed the e-shram portal to create a national database of unorganized workers, which is linked to Aadhaar. It contains details of name, occupation, address, occupation type, educational qualification, skill type etc. to maximize their employment and to extend the benefits of social security schemes to them. This is the first national database of unorganized workers including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers etc.
What are its benefits
With the e-shram card, unorganized sector employees are to get a pension of Rs 3000 per month after turning 60 years of age. Apart from this, there is a provision of death insurance of Rs 2,00,000 and financial assistance of Rs 1,00,000 in case of partial disability. If the beneficiary of the e-Shram card dies, the benefit is given to his spouse. Beneficiaries also get a 12-digit UAN number, which is valid all over India.
