Storm “Shanshan” continues to wreak havoc in Japan, heavy rains and landslides worsen the situation in many areas

Tokyo: The havoc of storm Shanshan, which has been going on in Japan for the last several days, is still continuing. Heavy rains and landslides have worsened the situation in many areas of Japan. It has become impossible for people to come out on the streets. Water has filled up everywhere. Many houses and institutions have submerged in water. Storm ‘Shanshan’ caused torrential rains on Sunday in Shizuoka, located 180 kilometers from the south-west region of the capital Tokyo. This worsened the situation.

Meteorological officials warned that the storm will continue for several days. Storm Shanshan caused winds of 65 kilometers per hour (40 miles per hour), which caused landslides on Thursday, rivers overflowed, branches broke and debris was scattered all around. Japanese public broadcaster NHK, which compiles data from local governments, said at least six people have died so far due to Typhoon Shanshan, of which three people died due to landslides.

According to Japanese agencies, so far six people have died due to Shanshan, besides 127 people have been injured and one person is missing. Japan Meteorological Agency said that the storm caused heavy rain in Shizuoka and its surrounding areas. Landslide warnings have been issued for parts of Hamamatsu and Izu cities in Shizuoka Prefecture and other areas including Yokohama in Tokyo. Tokyo has been generally cloudy in recent days and heavy rains occurred suddenly in some places.
