Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud has been arrested from the airport. Mahmud was a minister in Sheikh Hasina’s government. Earlier, former Awami League minister Junaid Ahmed Palak was detained at Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka. According to sources, Junaid was trying to come to India from Bangladesh. Junaid had gone to the airport to take a flight to India, when he was taken into custody.
President dissolved Parliament
Let us tell you that, amid violence in Bangladesh, President Mohammad Shahabuddin has dissolved the Parliament. Also, the country’s former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has also been released. Apart from this, the process of releasing the people arrested between July 1 and August has started and many people have already been released. The President’s move to dissolve the Parliament has cleared the way for fresh elections in the country.
The death toll is constantly increasing
The death toll in anti-government protests in Bangladesh rose to 440 on Tuesday. According to reports in the local media, more than 100 people have died in the incidents of violence that took place after Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on Monday and left the country. The army is engaged in controlling the situation in the violence-affected country.
Major reshuffle at the military level
A major reshuffle has also been done at the military level in Bangladesh. Major General Ziaul Ahsan, a close aide of former PM Sheikh Hasina, has been relieved from service. This reshuffle has been done in the top ranks of the Bangladesh Army.
