Hanoi: India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval attended the funeral of Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Nguyen Phu Trong died on 19 July. Ajit Doval personally expressed India’s condolences to the bereaved family, including Vietnam’s President To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Earlier during the meeting, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his gratitude to the Government of India and the people of India.
‘People of India respected’
Appreciating the important contribution of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in strengthening Vietnam-India relations, NSA Doval emphasized that he was a learned leader and the people of India respected him. He also said that the Government of India attaches importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India. The Indian government wants to further deepen bilateral relations, especially in traditional areas such as defense, trade and investment.
Strong relations between Vietnam and India
After the meeting with NSA Doval, the PM Office of Vietnam issued a statement saying that it shows the affection of close friends as well as the precious tradition between the people of Vietnam and India. The statement said, “Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two countries continue to coordinate to further develop the comprehensive strategic partnership. It also emphasized that there is a need to pay more attention and promote the field of science and technology, information and telecommunications, digital technology. ”
PM Modi had expressed grief
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Instagram on July 19, “I am saddened by the news of the death of Vietnam’s leader Nguyen Phu Trong. We pay tribute to the late leader. We express our deepest condolences and stand in solidarity with the people and leadership of Vietnam in this hour of grief.”
