The government can take a big decision to promote manufacturing in the country. An official said that the Union Cabinet may approve 12 new industrial cities in different states this week on the lines of Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh and Dholera, Gujarat. The official said that out of the 12 industrial cities, two are being built in Andhra Pradesh and one in Bihar. According to PTI news, the government has announced in the budget to develop ‘plug and play’ industrial parks in or around 100 cities in partnership with the states and the private sector to promote manufacturing.

According to the news, Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), said that eight such cities are already in different stages of implementation. Trunk infrastructure has been created in four cities – Dholera (Gujarat), Auric (Maharashtra), Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh) and Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and land plots are being allotted to the industry. Similarly, in the other four cities, the government vehicle is in the process of building infrastructure such as road connectivity, water and power supply.

Total number will reach 20
According to the news, eight are already in the development stage and with the announcement of 12 new cities in the budget, the total number of these cities in the country will reach 20. This move will help increase the share of manufacturing in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and generate employment. According to a report, in the financial year 2022-23, India’s manufacturing sector recorded an annual production growth rate of 4.7 percent, contributing 17 percent to the country’s GDP and employing 57.3 million workers during this period.
