After completing the journey at the headquarters, the running staff is given a minimum of 16 hours of rest. Every month, at least four periods of rest are given, which are not less than thirty consecutive hours, including spending the entire night on the bed or the crew is given a minimum of five periods of rest, which are not less than twenty-two consecutive hours.
Periodic rest for 4 consecutive periods of 30 hours is preferred. For outstation crew, the rest to be given is as follows: If the journey time is less than 5 hours – Minimum 6 hours rest in the running room If the journey time is more than 5 hours – Minimum 8 hours rest in the running room.
The Ground + 5 building is the largest running room (by capacity) on Central Railway, with a capacity of 192 beds, with separate rooms and washrooms for female crew members. The ground floor has crew booking lobby, loco inspector room, linen and store room, locker room, watchman room, housekeeping room and 2 toilet blocks.
The first floor has veg/non-veg canteen and dining area, gymnasium, yoga, meditation, recreation, CMS console room and 2 toilet blocks. From the 2nd floor to the 5th floor there are 48 air-conditioned rooms i.e. 12 rooms on each floor with a capacity to accommodate 4 beds in each room.
Five rooms have been earmarked for female crew members. There are 2 balconies on each floor. There are 12 toilet blocks (3 on each floor) with separate female washrooms on each floor.
There are separate kitchens for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, a dining hall, adequate toilets etc. There is also a meditation room with a pleasant atmosphere where the employees meditate and calm their mind. Employees also enjoy reading their favourite books, magazines etc. in the library room available in this building.
The building is also equipped with CCTV cameras for safety and security measures, other facilities include geyser, deep freezer, leg massager, shoe polish machine, clothes drying stand etc. It is pertinent to mention that leg massagers have been provided in the running room for the employees, especially the loco pilots. This equipment is an excellent stress reliever which gives them relief from the fatigue after their duty.
