The death toll in the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala has crossed 350. This natural disaster has left hundreds of people of Wayanad homeless. Relief and rescue operations are still going on in the affected areas of Wayanad. Meanwhile, different people are coming forward to help the affected people of Wayanad in their own way. The Finance Ministry has given special instructions to all the insurance companies to help the affected people in Wayanad.
Insurance companies instructed to settle claims as soon as possible
The Finance Ministry on Saturday directed public sector insurance companies including LIC to give the claim amount to the landslide victims and their families in Wayanad and other districts of Kerala as soon as possible. The Finance Ministry said in a post on X that insurance companies have started efforts to reach out to their customers through different newspapers, social media, website, SMS to provide contact details for help in Wayanad, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Thrissur districts. A large number of claims are being made in these districts of Kerala.
Finance Ministry expressed grief over the incident in Wayanad
The ministry said, “In view of the unfortunate landslide incident and heavy rains in Kerala, the government has ordered public sector insurance companies including LIC, National Insurance Corporation, New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance and United India Insurance to provide all possible help to the disaster victims, so that insurance claims can be processed and paid quickly. ”
Companies will be in touch with the General Insurance Council
The ministry said that LIC has been asked to distribute the claim amount to the policyholders under the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana as soon as possible. The General Insurance Council will coordinate with insurance companies to ensure speedy settlement and payment of insurance claims.
