NTA has earned Rs 3514 crore from the fees of all the examinations so far. The government itself has given this information. The central government told in Parliament that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has earned Rs 3,513.98 crore since its inception in 2018 and has spent 87.2% i.e. Rs 3,064.77 crore on conducting the examination so far. Also, with the introduction of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in the year 2022-23, the income of NTA increased by 78% from Rs 490.35 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 873.20 crore.

Tankha had asked a question about this, on which Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar on behalf of the government said that NTA was established in 2018 and it is “self-sufficient through examination fees” received from the candidates. Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar gave complete information about the income and expenditure of NTA for the last 6 years.

The minister said that NTA earned 101.51 crores from examination fees in the year 2018-19, out of which 118.43 crores were spent on the examination. At the same time, 488.08 crores were earned in 2019-20, out of which Rs 390 crores were spent. In the year 2021-22, Rs 494.46 crore was earned and 428.94 crores were spent. In the year 2022-23, Rs 873.20 was earned and Rs 681.52 crore was spent. In 2023-24, Rs 1065.38 crore was earned and Rs 1020.35 crore was spent. In this way, in 6 years, NTA earned Rs 3513.98 crore and spent Rs 3064.77 crore.

The government said that since the year 2022, NTA’s income through CUET exam fees has increased rapidly. NTA’s income increased by 78% from Rs 490.35 crore to Rs 873.20 crore in 2021-22, while in 2023-24 it increased by 22% to Rs 1,065.38 crore as compared to the previous year.

Which major exams does NTA have

Even though NTA conducted CUET-UG for the third time in the year 2024, many irregularities have been found in it and teachers raised concerns over the delay in the academic session due to late declaration of results by the agency. This time NTA conducted CUET UG 2024 in May, but released the CUET results in the last week of July after re-testing 1,203 candidates.
