Supreme Court rejects demand to postpone NEET-PG exam, says will not endanger career of 2 lakh students

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a petition seeking postponement of the NEET-PG exam scheduled to be held on August 11, claiming that candidates have been allotted cities where it is extremely inconvenient for them to reach. It was also demanded that it be dismissed. A three-judge bench of Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra heard the matter.

‘Cannot endanger career of 2 lakh students’

During the hearing, the bench told the petitioner that he cannot endanger the career of 2 lakh students for 5 students. CJI said, “How can we postpone such an exam. Sanjay Hegde, nowadays people just ask for postponement of the exam. This is not a perfect world. We are not academic experts. The bench said, “In principle, we will not reschedule the exam. There are 2 lakh students and 4 lakh parents who will cry over the weekend if it is postponed. We cannot put the careers of so many candidates at risk. We do not know who is behind these petitions.”

According to the petition, the allotment of examination centers was done on July 31 itself, and the specific centers were to be announced on August 8. Due to this last minute information aimed at preventing cheating, the candidates did not have enough time to prepare to reach the examination center, due to which the NEET PG exam reschedule was requested. In such a situation, it is now decided that NBEMS will conduct the NEET PG 2024 exam on August 11, 2024 in two shifts.
