A WhatsApp message about the government’s scheme to give laptops to students is going viral these days. It is possible that you or someone you know may have received a similar message. In this message, it is being claimed that the government is giving free laptops to those students who are financially weak and cannot buy laptops. Such students will get free laptops from the central government. Then they are being asked to fill a form. According to this message, a total of 9.60 lakh laptops are being distributed for free.
What is the scheme?
At present, many state governments are giving free laptops, tablets or mobile phones to students. However, no such scheme is being run by the central government. A link is being shared in the message, after clicking on which an application form is opening. In this form, it is being said that people in the age group of 10 to 50 years will be given free laptops. Not only this, in this form, all kinds of information like full name, education level, laptop brand, age etc. is being sought.
The message going viral is fake
PIB Fact Check has declared this message going viral on WhatsApp as fake. Along with this, a warning has also been issued to the users. By clicking on the link given in this message, hackers can steal your personal information and you can be scammed. No such scheme is being run by the government. Do not forward such viral messages nor click on the given link.
Do not do this work by mistake
