Iran’s interference in US presidential election? Trump’s campaign team made serious allegations; FBI started investigation

Washington: Iran has also indirectly entered the US presidential election. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now investigating allegations that sensitive documents of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign were stolen through cyber intrusion, as well as an attempt was made to break into Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign. Trump’s campaign team, the Republican candidate for the presidency, said a few days ago that his campaign had been hacked through Iran. The FBI issued a brief statement on Trump’s case, saying, “We can confirm that the FBI is investigating the matter.”

Donald Trump’s campaign team did not provide any specific evidence of Iran’s involvement, but the claim came shortly after Microsoft released a report detailing efforts by foreign agents to interfere in the US election in 2024. The report cited an example of an Iranian military intelligence unit in June “hacking into the email account of a former senior adviser and sending an email containing a virus to a high-ranking presidential campaign official.” Two people familiar with the matter said the suspected Iranian cyber breach also targeted the Biden and Harris campaigns and the FBI is investigating it.
