Milwaukee: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Meanwhile, referring to India’s old relations with Russia, America has said that it has urged New Delhi to “use” its relations with Moscow to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the “illegal war” against Ukraine. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in his daily press conference, “India has very old relations with Russia. I think everyone knows this. We have encouraged India to use these old relations with Russia, its unique position and urge President Putin to end the war, achieve a just and lasting peace in this conflict and respect the United Nations Charter, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. ”
India is important
In response to a question, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “We will continue to emphasize this to the Indian government. India is an important partner of ours in terms of relations with Russia. Miller made similar remarks on July 9, soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Russia. Modi was in Russia for two days on July 8-9 for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. Amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, his visit was also closely watched by Western countries. This was Modi’s first visit to Russia after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine more than two years ago.
What has been India’s stand
In the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi told Putin on July 9 that peace talks do not succeed amid bombs, guns and bullets and no solution to any conflict is possible on the battlefield. India has been strongly defending its “special and privileged strategic partnership” with Russia and has maintained momentum in relations with Russia despite the war in Ukraine. India has not yet condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and has advocated resolution of the conflict through continued dialogue and diplomacy.
