US President Joe Biden’s administration described India as a great power, expressed happiness over this

Washington: US President Joe Biden’s administration described India as a great power and told lawmakers that New Delhi wants to play a responsible role globally. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell made these remarks on Tuesday during a hearing on US-China competition beyond the Indo-Pacific. He made these remarks amid reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit Kiev this month against the backdrop of renewed global efforts to end Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Campbell told members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, “It has to be kept in mind that India is also a great power. It has its own vision and its own interests. It will never be a formal ally or partner of America. But that doesn’t mean that our relationship as allies on the global stage cannot be strong.”

Kurt Campbell was responding to a question from Senator James Rich about Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Moscow for a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said, “I am not going to add anything more directly to what you have effectively said regarding Russia. I think we may hear reports of India interacting more directly with Ukraine. I am grateful for that. I think India wants to play a responsible role globally.”
