Washington: US President Joe Biden said on Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris is “qualified” to lead the country. Biden had earlier said in a press conference on Thursday that from the beginning, I have had no doubt that she (Kamala Harris) is qualified to be the president. That’s why I chose her. When asked about the reasons for this comment, he said on Friday, “First of all, the way she handled the issue of women’s freedom and secondly, her great ability to handle almost any issue is the reason.” Biden said, “Unless I think she is qualified to be the president, I would not have chosen her.”

59-year-old Harris is the first woman, first Black American and first South Asian American to be elected as US Vice President in the year 2020. There have been demands that 81-year-old Biden should withdraw from the presidential election race in November after he faltered in a TV debate with Republican rival Donald Trump last month. It was against this backdrop that he made a related comment about 59-year-old Harris.
‘I am committed to contesting’
Biden is America’s oldest president. He said, “I am committed to contesting. I think I am the most qualified person for the presidential candidacy. I defeated him (Trump) once and now I will defeat him again.” The US President said, “In addition, the idea that senators and congressmen in the presidential race are worried about the ticket is not unusual and I would like to say that there were at least five presidents in the presidential race whose popularity level was lower than my current popularity.” Biden said, “So there is still a long way to go in this campaign, I will just keep going, keep moving forward.”
