Elephant Surprise: Rare Twin Birth Delights Caretakers

A 36-year-old elephant named Chamchuri pleasantly surprised caretakers and herself by giving birth to twins at a zoo in central Thailand. The unexpected event brought joy and excitement to the caretakers at the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal, located about 50 miles north of Bangkok.

Initially, caretakers had anticipated Chamchuri to deliver a single calf on June 7. However, as they assisted the boy calf and helped him stand, they were astonished by the arrival of a second calf—a girl, doubling the delight of the occasion.

Buddhist monks from Wat Traimit in Bangkok bestowed blessings upon the mother elephant and her twins in a heartwarming ceremony. This traditional gesture symbolized wishes for the health and prosperity of the newborns and their mother.
