Storm and heavy rain wreaked havoc in Afghanistan, 35 people died; heavy damage was caused

Islamabad: The fury of nature has been seen once again in Afghanistan. A Taliban official has said that 35 people have died due to storm and heavy rain in eastern Afghanistan on Monday. Sediqullah Qureshi, provincial director of the Information and Culture Department, said that many people have also been injured in Nangarhar province. Qureshi said that the dead also include five people of the same family who lost their lives due to the collapse of the roof of a house in Surkh Road district. Four other members of the family have been injured in the accident.

Women and children included among the dead

Sediqullah Qureshi said that women and children are also among those killed and injured in the natural disaster. Property and crops have also suffered heavy damage in different parts of the province. Aminullah Sharif, head of the regional hospital in Nangarhar, said that so far 207 injured have been brought to the provincial capital Jalalabad and surrounding districts for treatment. He said that dozens of local people reached the hospital to donate blood for the injured.

Rain had caused havoc earlier too

It is worth noting that earlier the World Food Program had said that more than 300 people were killed and thousands of houses were destroyed in the unprecedented heavy rains that occurred in Afghanistan on May 10 and May 11. Most of these houses were in the northern Baglan province. It said that the people who survived this disaster now have neither home nor land nor any source of livelihood.
