Trump requests court to intervene in case of paying money to ‘porn star’ secretly

New York: Former US President Donald Trump has requested a federal court to intervene in a criminal case related to paying money to a ‘porn star’ to keep quiet. Trump has made this request to the court so that his conviction can be overturned and a way can be found to postpone the sentence scheduled next month indefinitely. Former President Trump’s lawyers have argued in the US District Court in Manhattan, requesting it to take control of this criminal case of New York City. The lawyers have argued that the state-level prosecution has violated Trump’s constitutional rights and the recent decision of the US Supreme Court on the President’s immunity from lawsuits.

Trump was found guilty

A Manhattan court found Trump guilty in May on 34 charges of tampering with records in the case of paying money secretly to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election in the US. A federal judge last year rejected Trump’s attempt to transfer the case to federal court, paving the way for a historic trial against Trump in state court.

Now Trump’s lawyers file petition

Now the petition filed by Trump’s lawyers states that taking the case to federal court after being convicted would give him a “free, fair forum free from local hostility” to oppose these charges. Trump’s lawyers said that if the case is taken to federal court, they will request to reverse the decision and dismiss the case. Trump’s lawyers Todd Blanch and Emil Bowe said, “The current proceedings will continue to cause direct and irreparable harm to Trump, the leading candidate in the 2024 presidential election, and voters located far away from Man

hattan.”
