The world’s second largest diamond has been found in the African country of Botswana. This diamond is 2,492 carats. Officials of the Canadian mining company are very happy after this discovery. The government of Botswana believes that this huge gem of 2,492 carats is the largest natural diamond discovered in the country and the second largest gem extracted from any mine.
Diamond discovered with the help of X-ray technology
Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond Corp said in a statement on Wednesday that it has recovered an ‘exceptional’ diamond from its Karowe mine in western Botswana. Lucara said that this is a ‘high quality’ diamond and it was discovered with the help of X-ray technology. In terms of weight, it is the largest diamond found in more than 100 years, and after the Cullinan diamond discovered in South Africa in 1905, it is the second largest diamond extracted from the mine. The Cullinan diamond was 3,106 carats and was cut into several pieces, some of which are part of the British royal jewellery.

The world’s largest diamond cut into 9 pieces
This is the largest diamond ever found after the 3106 carat Cullinan Diamond found in South Africa in 1905. It was named after the mine owner Thomas Cullinan. It was presented to British King Edward VII in 1907. After this, Joseph Asher of Amsterdam cut it into 9 pieces of different shapes and sizes. The Cullinan diamond is also known as the Great Star of Africa. Its largest piece is in the scepter of King Charles of Britain. At the same time, its second largest piece is embedded in the Imperial State Crown of the royal family.
How much will this diamond cost?
Let us tell you that in 2019 also a diamond of about 1758 carats was discovered which was bought by French fashion company Louis Vuitton. However, there is no confirmed news about its price till date. In 2017, an 1111 carat diamond was sold for Rs 444 crore, so even if seen in that way, this diamond is more than twice the size of that diamond. Therefore, it is expected that this diamond can be worth more than Rs 1000 crore. However, this is only an estimate and the real price of the diamond can be much more than this.
