Good news for educational institutions, now GST bill will not be taken on research grants

Today GST Council meeting was held in Delhi. In this meeting many important issues related to GST bill were discussed. Finance ministers of many states attended this meeting. After the GST meeting was over, Delhi’s Finance Minister Atishi spoke to the media and gave a big information. Atishi said that now GST will not be collected on research grants from any educational institution.

GST will not be levied
Finance Minister Atishi said, “The Delhi government, Punjab government and Aam Aadmi Party have been continuously raising the issue that GST should not be levied on educational institutions which receive research grants. Imposing GST on this is equal to tax terrorism and we are happy that the central government as well as all the state governments agreed on this and it has been decided that now if any educational institution takes any government grant or research grant from a private institution, then GST will not be levied on it.

Health insurance was also discussed

Further, it was said that some opposition states have raised the issue that the 18% premium currently charged on health insurance is very high, so there was a consensus in the GST Council that GST should be reduced, but now this issue has been sent to the GoM. The GoM will investigate the entire issue.” West Bengal Finance Minister had raised the issue

At the same time, West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya also said on this issue, “I had raised the issue of GST on health insurance. I said that there should be complete exemption. Goa Chief Minister supported me. Many ministers believed that it should be reduced. They agreed to reduce it from 18% to 5%. Now whether there will be exemption on it or it will be reduced to 5%, a GoM has been formed on this, which will submit its report by the end of October and then a decision will be taken on it in the next meeting.”
